J. A. Mills, Pioneer Banker, Died Today

J. A. Mills Sr., 73, cashier of the Farmers Trust & Savings bank and long time leading citizen of Nevada, died at his home corner Fifth and K avenue this afternoon at 12:15. Cancer, from which he had been a sufferer for some time, was the cause of his death.

While no arrangements have been made regarding the funeral and interment, it is known that the services will be held at the home and that interment will be in the Nevada cemetery.

Mr. Mills ws one of the leading business men of Nevada, as well as one of the leaders in the business and political activities of Story county.

he had been a resident of the county for close to half a century, and aside from the time that he spent as county treasurer, had always been engaged in the banking business.

Long connected with Mr. Dutton in conducting the Farmers Bank of this city as a private banking institution, he had held the position of cashier and had been active in the directing of the affairs of the institution, during its successful career.

It was but a few months ago that is was realized that his condition was such that his activities would of necessity cease, and the affairs of the bank were rearranged and an incorporation under the state law, changed it form the Farmers Bank to the Farmers Trust & Savings bank, with Mr. Mills continuing as cashier and his sons, J. A. Mills Jr., and Frederic T. Mills, named as assistant cashiers. Mr. Dutton is president of the institution.
