George H. Kellogg, 83, prominent Story county citizen, died at 5:05 this morning in the Story County Hospital where he had been admitted a few hours earlier. Death was due to a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held from the Nevada Methodist church Saturday afternoon at 2:00 c'clock with the Rev. David Ash officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada cemetery.
The body ill lie in state at the Ryan Funeral Home until the hour of service.
Mr. Kellogg had been a resident of Nevada since 1922 when he came to Story County to serve as Story County Superintendent of Schools, a position he held until 1935. During his incumbency in the office he served as president of the Iowa State Teachers association and held other position in the Educational field. His deceased wife, Melrose Kellogg served as his deputy in the Story county office.
George H. Kellogg was born Dec. 22, 1871 at Crown Point, New York, a son of E. T. and Florence Kellogg. He was a graduate of Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, Iowa and had been superintendent of the Hawarden and Clarion schools and also taught at Bennett and Maquoketa before coming to Story county.
A member of the Nevada Methodist church, Mr. Kellogg served as its financial secretary for 10 years. He was a Past Master of the Nevada Masonic Lodge and its secretary for several years. He was also a member of the Order fo the Eastern Star and of the Nevada Rotary club. For the past 10 years he owned and operated the Kellogg Credit System at 522 K avenue and he had been serving as Justice of the Peace for a number of years.
His wife, Melrose, preceded him in death, August, 1941. On July 3, 1942 he was united in marriage to Miss Fern Tollefson of Nevada, who survives him. He also leaves one brother, Daniel Kellogg of Chicago and several nieces and nephews.
