Funeral Services For Mrs. Chas. Webb At Zearing Christian Church
Funeral services for Mrs. Charles S. Webb, 71, life-time resident of Story County who passed away at the Mellor Nursing home in Ames on Tuesday, May 15, following a lingering illness, were held from the Zearing Christian church on Friday afternoon, May 18.
The church was filled to capacity with relatives, friends and neighbors.
Rites were in charge of the Rev. Richard Anthens, pastor of the church.
Music was furnished by members of the Christian church choir, accompanied by Mrs. Delos Dakins, organist. Mrs. Ruth Chance and Mrs. [unable to read] had charge of the many beautiful floral offerings.
Casket bearers included neighbors and friends of the deceased from the farm community between Zearing and Colo, where Mrs. Webb lived a good share of her lifetime. They included: Ralph Handsaker, Thomas Handsaker, A. T. Barnum, Edd Schuler, William Schuler and Wilbur Gerlach.
Preceded the services at the church, a short prayer service was held at the Webb farm home, five and one-half miles north of Colo.
Interment was in the Colo cemetery.
Obituary
Dorcas Webb died of a heart attack following complications at 4 o'clock Thursday afternoon, May 15, 1951, at the Mellor Nursing home in Ames.
Mrs. Webb had been in failing health the past three years.
She was born near Cambridge, Ia., Aug. 20, 1879, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Stevens, and lived in Story county her entire life.
She was united in marriage to Charles S. Webb on Jan. 3, 1900, who survives her. And to this union were born six children. Those surviving are Earl and Wilbur of Nevada, Edna of Des Moines, Clifford of Zearing and Mrs. George (Helen) Jones of Ames. One son, Walter, died in infancy.
Other survivors include seven grandchildren; one great grandson; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Carver of Zearing and Mrs. Alice Buffington of Titonka, Ia.; four half sisters, Mrs. Edith Mathey of Ames, Mrs. Jenny Hix of Zearing, Mrs. Ethel Hensen of Melbourne and Mrs. Velma Chandler of Omaha, Neb., and five half brothers, Bradford Stevens of Collins, Squire of Des Moines, John of Marshalltown, William of Washington, Ia. and Iver of Nevada.
A host of relatives and friends also mourn her passing.
Mrs. Webb was a devoted wife and mother. Her first interest were of her home and family. She was a member of the Christian Church of Zearing, Ia.
