Walter C. Thomas, was born to Frank and Achsah Thomas, on December 22, 1884 near Zearing, Iowa. He spent his childhood and most of his life in Story county. In young manhood he joined the Presbyterian church in McCallsburg. On New Years Day, 1910, Walter was joined in marriage to Elma Davis and to this union were born three children: Marion, Rae and Mae. During the early part of their marriage, they lived fifteen years near Northwood, Iowa, in Worth county, farming and later operating a retail store. They moved to story county and later to a farm near Cambridge where Elma passed away February 19, 1950.
Mr. Thomas has been in moderate good health until August 13th when he became suddenly seriously ill. After being taken to Rochester, Minn. for examination, he was brought to Story County hospital, where he passed away Aug. 20, 1954, at the age of 69.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Jake and William; sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Davis and Mrs. Viola Eddy, and his parents. Walter is survived by the sons, Marion of Cambridge, Rae of Ames; daughter Mrs. Mae Scott of Cambridge; six grandchildren; brothers Charles of Nevada, Herman of Roland; sister Hannah Thomas of Nevada; in addition to many other relatives and friends.
