LUA VERNETTA AKERS

Lua Vernetta Akers, 83, of Nevada, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 1984 at Story County Hospital, Nevada.

She was born May 10, 1901, at Lamoni, Ia., to Spencer Grant and Susan Spitznogle Akers. She attended elementary school at Redding, Ia., and graduated from Nevada High School.

She taught in rural schools of Story County for six years. During WWII she worked at the Ordinance Plant in Ankeny, Ia. She retired from Donnelley Marketing in 1966 after working there 39 years.

She was a member of Donnelley Retirement Club.

Survivors include a sister, Marjorie LaJune Akers of Nevada, and two nephews raised in their home, Max Akers of Des Moines and Clark Akers of Colorado Springs, Colo.

She as preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clarence "Red" Akers and one infant brother; and two sisters, Mabel Briggs and Jessie Lacey.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Ryan Funeral Home, Nvada, with Rev. Ernest Larson of the Nevada United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in Nevada Cemtery.
