Allen Sowers, 40, of Ames, who was seriously injured Friday afternoon as he was on his way to Fort Madison from Ames to spend the weekend with his wife and sons, passed away about 3:30 Monday morning, May 6, at the Mahaska hospital in Oskaloosa where he had been taken following a car accident Friday afternoon. He had a badly crushed chest, broken ribs, broken shoulder blades and broken collar bone. On Saturday afternoon pneumonia developed and during Sunday he was in an oxygen tent part of the time.
Mr. Sowers, graduate of the Nevada High School, has been in Ames the past six weeks, engaged with his brother in the excavating business, and Mrs. Sowers and sons were to join him there at the close of school.
The deceased, born in Milford township, was the son of Mrs. Sadie Sowers of Ayes, and the late Max Sowers. He was well known to several in this community.
