Death this Morning of Mrs. Carrie Gifford In St. Paul, Minn.
Mrs. J. R. Borgen was in receipt of a telegram this morning announcing the death of Mrs. Carrie Gifford of St. Paul, Minn., native daughter of Story county, who was born in Iowa Center, Feb. 14, 1859, a daughter of the late Dr. Mark and Annette Fenn Sheldon.
The body accompanied by the son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Judge Gifford, will arrive in Nevada over the Rock Island at 12:08 Sunday night.
The committal service will be held in the Nevada cemetery at 11 o'clock Monday morning, where the remains will be laid to rest by the side of the husband, the lat Attorney E. W. Gifford who passed away in St. Paul about ten or 12 years ago.
Mrs. Gifford, 84, had been invalided for some time and her death was not unexpected.
Daughter of a prominent pioneer Story county family, as Carrie Sheldon Mrs. Gifford had lived her girlhood in Iowa Center which was then a thriving Story county village, and where her father, Dr. Sheldon had located for the practice of his profession.
Later the family home was moved to Nevada, the Sheldons building a home on First street which for many years has been the property of Mrs. Nina Post. The Giffords after their marriage lived for number of years in the home just north. The son Judge, attended and graduated from the Nevada schools.
The Giffords and the Sheldons moved to St. Paul in 1900, the parents and husband having passed away there.
Mrs. Gifford is survived by one son, Judge Gifford of St. Paul who made his home with his mother and looked after her needs in her declining years.
