Last Rites Were Held Friday For Mrs. Effie Moran

Last rites for Mrs. Effie Moran, 77, who passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11 at her home 728 Eighth street, following an illness of a number of months, were held Friday afternoon at 2 p. m. with her pastor, the Reverend O. E. Cooley, officiating.

Members of the Order of the Eastern Star, Nevada Chapter No. 296, of which she was a member, attended the funeral in a body as did the Story County Board of Supervisors of which her son Claude Moran in a member, and other members of the courthouse staff.

The front of the church was banked with many beautiful floral pieces which testified to the love and esteem in which the deceased was held in this community. The flowers were arranged by the flower committee of the church, Mrs. Ada Crooks, Mrs. Frank Purk and Mrs. E. C. Wendel.

Mr. Norman C. Dobson was at the organ playing appropriate hymns and accompanying Mrs. Treton Case who sang "I Will Sing You A Song" and "Rock of Ages."

The casket bearers were P. R. Halleland, Elmore Reitz, Chas. Schultz, Leon W. Golden, James McDaniel and W. F. Stratton. Committal was in the Nevada cemetery.

A beautiful and very fitting tribute was paid Mrs. Moran by her pastor, who spoke of her devotion to her home, her family and to her church, her kindness and charity to others and her exemplification of a truly Christian life. The following obituary was read at the funeral service: "Mrs. Effie R. Moran, the daughter of William R. Finley and L. Dana Finley was born March 2, 1868 on the Finley homestead, Nevada township, three and one-half miles south of Nevada. She was next to the youngest of seven children, all of whom have proceeded her in death with the exception of Mrs. Rusha McConnell of Nevada and Oscar Finley of Salem, South Dakota.

On December 2, 1890 she was united in marriage to Mark Moran of Nevada and continued to make her home upon the farm where she was born. To this union were born two sons--Claude and Harry the latter proceeding his mother in death while a member of the armed forces in World War I.

Mrs. Moran and her husband moved to 728 8th street, Nevada in the spring of 1920 due to the illness of her husband where she continued to make her home until her death.

Her husband preceded her in death in May, 1937.

She was a member of the Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Legion Auxiliary and Social Hour Club.

She is survived by her son Claude Moran, her granddaughter Marguerite Moran, her sister, Mrs. Rusha McConnell of Nevada and her brother Oscar Finely of Salem, S. D. by other relatives and by a large circle of friends.

Out of town relatives in attendance at the last rites were C. L. Nichols and Robert Nichols of Clear Lake, Mrs. Guy Caffery and son Roger of Garney and Mrs. Mattie Bosley of Fernald.
