Walter Creighton Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis William Johnson, was born Nov. 10, 1872, at West Union, Ohio. Passed away at his farm home west of Nevada on Sunday evening, June 23, 1946. His death followed illness of about a month's duration.
In 1899 he was united in marriage to Ida Mae Converse, being married at Nevada. To this union were born two sons, Kenneth C. who lives near Collins, and Kermit F. of Shelby, N. C. Mrs. Johnson died in 1916. Later Mr. Johnson was married to May Craft of Linden, Iowa.
Mr. Johnson lived nearly fifty years on the same farm. Until resent weeks he was very active for a man of his age and was able to do a man's work about the farm.
Besides his wife he leaves his two sons, and also three grandchildren. They are: Wendell C. now in Japan serving in the U. S. Army, LaVonne and Bryce. Also one sister, Mrs. Orrie Cook of Des Moines, and three brothers Clifton Johnson of Santa Barbara, Calif., Dwight Johnson of Brookins, S. D., and Porter Johnson of Nevada. Also one sister, Sarah Moore, now deceased.
After spending his early life in Ohio, Mr. Johnson came to Illinois, and still later to Iowa.
He was very active in community affairs serving for many years on the Shipley school board. He was very active in the building of the present structure at that place. Mr. Johnson was for many years a member of the Nevada Methodist church, serving on the board at various times, one of the oldest members. He was loyal and regular in the performance of his church duties. He was an active Mason and had also received eighteen degrees in the Consistory. He was also a member of Eastern Star.
