Charles Chaffin, 72, of 904 K avenue, died at the Iowa sanitarium Monday evening* at 8:10 from injuries received when he was thrown from and stepped upon by a horse be was riding Friday afternoon.

A punctured lung sustained when a number of ribs were broken was the cause of his death.

Mr. Chaffin, a native of Story county, was born a son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Chaffin near the site of the town of Maxwell, Dec. 18, 1869. He was united in marriage to Lulu Booher of Nevada March 1, 1899. She died at the home here Oct 15, 1936*--but one day of five years ago.

During most their married life they farmed south of Nevada, but about 15 years ao retired and moved into Nevada, establishing their home at 904 K ave.

They are survived by five children and five grandchildren. The children are Mrs. E. H. Myers of Olin, Claude Chaffin and Ralph Chaffin of Akron, O., Mrs. George Upton and Bessie Chaffin of Nevada.

He is also survived by one brother and four sisters. The brother is George Chaffin of Milford, and the sisters are Mrs. Ed Myers of Cheyenne, Wyo., Mrs. Bert Stratton of Portland, Ore., Mrs. George Blair of Winterset and Mrs. John Cline of LaJunta, Colo.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 at the Evangelical church and burial will be in the Nevada cemetery by the side of his deceased wife.

All of the children had been at home since shortly after the accident occurred and were at his bedside when death came.

Mr. Chaffin was a man of excellent character, devoted to his family and home and leaves a wide circle of friends in the community in which he had spent his entire lifetime.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Charles James Chaffin died on 13 October 1941. Lulu (Booher) Chaffin died 15 October 1936 at the University Hospitals in Iowa City, Johnson County, Iowa, not Nevada.
