DEATH OF MRS. HOEL

Mrs. Susan Hoel, widow of the late John Hoel, died Wednesday at the home in this city of her daughter, Mrs. C. W. Wells, after a protracted illness incident to the breaking down from old age. Mrs. Hoel had been a resident of Nevada since shortly after the war, and n former years she was well and most favorably known among many friends. She had, however, for many years kept in such complete retirement, that she was known to few besides the older residents and the members of her family.

Mrs. Susan Horson Hoel was born in Christiana, Norway, August 15, 1924, and died at Nevada, Iowa, November 16, 1908, aged 84 years, 3 months and 1 day. She spent her youth in her native country, where in 1851 she was married to John Hoel. In 1852 she accompanied her husband to this country, living for a year in New York City. In 1853 they moved west and made their home in Madison, Wisconsin, until the fall of 1865, when they came to Nevada. Here they lived in a cottage on the lot where Misses Ringheim now reside. Mr. Hoel who was a carpenter and builder died here in 1881 and is buried in the Nevada cemetery. Mrs. Hoel thereafter made her home chiefly with her daughter Inger, Mrs. Wells, and there passed away on Monday as stated. Her funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the house, the services being conducted by Rev. J. N. Lentz, of the Lutheran church and interment was made at the Nevada cemetery be the side of her husband.

Besides Mrs. Wells, there was another daughter, Hilda, who died several years ago in Colorado, and the remaining child was and is Henry Hoel, who has lived many years in St. Louis and who was kept from coming to the funeral by serious illness of two of his own children.
