Retired pastor died at Nevada

The Rev. John M. Johnson, 78, Nevada, retired Lutheran minister, died about 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Story County Hospital in Nevada. He had been ill about three months.

Born at Minneapolis, Minn., he had been a resident of Nevada the past five years.

He was ordained June 8, 1913 and retired from active ministry in 1950. From then until 1958 he was assistant pastor at Oak Knoll Lutheran Church in Minneapolis and interim pastor at Frost, Minn.

He service parishes at Fergus Falls, Minn.; Buxton, N.D.; Irene, S.D. and Armstrong.

He is survived by his wife, Regina; three sons, Dr. Merton Johnson, Nevada, Dr. Emmett Johnson, Rock Island, Ill., and Oliver Johnson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. Amalie Larson, Macintosh, Minn. and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and a daughter.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. from the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames with the Rev. Robert Larsen officiating. Burial will be at the Nevada Cemetery. The body will lie in state at Ryan Funeral Home, Nevada, until Friday morning.
