Orris Eugene Swaim, 88, of Newton, died Sunday, Jan. 2, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the rev. George Edgerly of the First Pentecostal Assembly of God, officiating. Burial will be at Taylor cemetery near Unionville.

Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Taylor Cemetery Association will be accepted.

The son of John and Ethel Ellison Swaim, he was born Sept. 7, 1911, near Moravia. He farmed in Story County for more than 30 years before moving to Clark County where he continued to farm until 1973.

Survivors include two sons, Virgil of Newton and John of Osceola; two daughters, Loretta Smith of Swan and Esther Hunt of Newton; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Sloan of Ottumwa; and a brother, Dwight of San Jacinto, Calif.
