Vickie Smith, 64, of Glenwood, IA passed away at her home on Sunday, August 11, 2013. A Celebration of Life will be 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Loess Hills Funeral and Cremation Center with Chaplin Mike York officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to services.
Vickie Marie Hall, daughter of Marvin and Barbara Hall, was born on April 23, 1949 in Ames, IA. She grew up in Nevada, IA where she received her education, graduating from Nevada High School in 1967. Following high school she attended Westmar College in Le Mars, IA where she received her B.A. in History and Political Science. On June 3, 1973 she married Joseph Allen Smith at Kellerton, IA. The couple was blessed with two children, Rebekah Jane and Deborah Anne. Returning from Germany in 1985, the couple made their home in Glenwood, IA. Vickie worked at the Glenwood Resource Center, Children’s Square, and as a substitute teacher for the area schools until her retirement.
Vickie was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting, word search puzzles, traveling and watching game shows on TV. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
Vickie is survived by Joe, her husband of 40 years; daughters, Rebekah (Glynn Gulling) of Red Oak, IA and Deborah Smith of Omaha, NE; granddaughter, Anna Muri of San Diego, CA; sisters, Sallie Hall and Sue Bucy, both of Stillwater, OK; many nieces, nephews; and a host of friends.
Vickie was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
