S. A. Pettit rites Friday
S. A. Pettit, 87, Bondurant, died about 6 a.m. Wednesday in a Des Moines hospital. He had been in ill health for the past several months.
Born in Grand Junction, he lived in Ames from 1900 until 1937. He was employed by the Gilchrist Coal and Seed Co. while here.
Survivors include a son, Frank, of Elm Grove, Wis.; six daughters, Mrs. Jim McGooden of Altoona, Mrs. Ray Koontz of Ames, Mrs. Leo Koontz of Snohomish, Wis., Mrs. L. D. Van Vors of Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Paul Thomas of San Francisco, Calif. and Mrs. Harv McGuire of Bonapart; a brother, Leon, of Grand Junction; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Walker of Marshalltown and Mrs. Jennie Thompson of Creston; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. His wife, Belle, preceded him in death in July, 1957.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from the Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. A.E. Wilken, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren Church officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
