Janet Wallin, 96, passed away January 4, 2014 at Green Hills Retirement Community in Ames. There will be a memorial service 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 26 in the Main Dining Room at Green Hills, 2200 Hamilton Drive, Ames, Iowa 50014. The family requests everyone wear brightly colored clothes to honor Janet's memory.

Janet Mary Wallin was born November 10, 1917 to Irving E. and Elizabeth (Williamson) Melhus in Ames. She married Jack Wallin in 1937, a union that continued until his death in 2000. They lived and worked in Ames, Omaha, Columbia, Missouri and then back to Ames. They were posted in Guatemala for a while and then back to Columbia, where Janet opened a gift shop and helped in management of the Winston Churchill Museum and Library. She traveled often with Jack to countries such as Thailand, Mexico, Spain, Portugal and others. In retirement, Janet worked for FEMA for 9 years.

Janet is survived by two sons, Jack (Jay) Wallin, of New York City, NY and Robb Wallin, of Englewood, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jack.
