Rose Meta Haugsted was born July 17, 1920 in Battle Creek, Iowa, a daughter of Jacob and Meta (Berndt) Schau. She grew up and attended school in the Battle Creek area. She was united in marriage to Robert Clark Towns on September 19, 1954 at a ceremony in Ida Grove. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1972. On September 23, 1978, she married Clarence Haugsted at Little Brown Church in Nashua. She and Clarence lived in Ames, until 2010, when they moved to Hiawatha. Clarence passed away September 14, 2012.

Rose died December 30, 2013, at Lincoln Hills Health Center in New Albany, Indiana at 93 years of age.

She is survived by two daughters, Tonya Frost and husband Gary of Hallsville, Missouri; Colleen Briggs and husband Robert of Louisville, Kentucky; one son, Ivan Towns and wife Chris of Napa, California; one stepdaughter, Susan Godfrey, of Osceola; and one stepson, Steve Haugsted, and wife Joyce of Cedar Rapids; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Eunice Nepper of Ida Grove; and many nieces and nephews.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; and three sisters.
