Double Death in Walter Williams Home on Thursday

Death entered the Walter Williams home, southeast of Nevada twice within a short four hours on Thursday, when Mrs. Williams died at 10:45 a.m., as the result of an attack of pneumonia, while Mr. Williams died at 2:40 p.m., following a stroke of apoplexy.

While neither of them had been well for some time, their last and fatal illness was not of long duration.

Mrs. Williams, 73 years of age had been suffering from pneumonia for about two weeks. While Mr. Williams, 75 years of age, had not been well, he had been up and about the home and death was due to the stroke he suffered but a very short time before his death.

Mr. and Mrs. Williams, both members of pioneer families, have spent their entire lives in the county.

In their immediate family, they are survived by the daughter, Lucille, now Mrs. Elmer Whitaker, of Nevada and two sons, Irvin, married and living southeast of Nevada and Verle at home.

Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the late John Calvin Thomas and Minervia Thomas, and was born, raised and married in the home in which she died--the old Thomas homestead.

Her mother passed away while she was a child and Carrie with the other children was raised by the grandparents, on the old homestead.

In addition to her children she is survived by two brothers, J. F. Thomas of Effingham, Kansas and William Thomas of the Shipley neighborhood.

Mr. Williams, also a native of Story county, was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Williams. A brother of the late Mrs. Oscar Smith, he is survived by three brothers, James Williams of Eldora, George Williams of Granada, Minn., and
Charles Williams of Boone.

Mr. and Mrs. Williams had been married 45 years on December 28 two days before their death.

A double funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m., at the Nevada Evangelical church. Burial will be in the Nevada cemetery.
