Funeral Services for James Kuhn Held on Sunday

Funeral services for James Oscar Kuhn, native son of Story county who passed away Wednesday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Omer Parks after an illness of several months, were held at the Morfoot Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon at 2 p. m. with Dr. James O. Simon in charge of services.

Appropriate hymns were sung by James Ostrem with Harry Christiansen at the organ. Many beautiful flowers surrounded the bier.

The pall bearers were John Pict, Fred Chitty, Frank Bowlk, Vern Proctor, Ed Couser, and Simpson Toot.

Among the large number of relatives here for the last rites was the only living brother of the deceased, 81 years of age, here from Illinois.

Burial was n the Nevada cemetery.

The following life story of the deceased was read by Dr. Simon:

James Oscar Kuhn was born June 27, 1870, son of George N. and Mary Ann Kuhn. He passed away at his home in Nevada March 7, 1945, age 74 years, 8 months and 10 days. He was the youngest of five children.

The parents were pioneer settlers of Richland township, Story county, having located there in 1865 on the farm one-half mile east of Fernald. Oscar lived nearly all his life time on this same farm until 12 years when he, with his family moved to Nevada.

He was married to Anice Apple of Lawrence, Ind., February 19, 1899. To this union were born six children all of whom are living. Namely, Verna Parks of Nevada, Gladys Duncan of near Collins, Faye Hagen of Ames, Kenneth of near Melbourne, Henry of near Nevada and Marie Kuhn of Nevada.

As a young man he attended the Evangelical meetings of the late evangelist Billy Sunday and became a member of Johnson Grove Methodist church where his name is on the church roll.

About three years ago he suffered a light paralytic stroke and his health was impaired and again just ten months ago he suffered a second stoke which resulted in him being bedfast and gradually growing weaker until he passed away on March 7th.

Surviving him are his wife and children and nineteen grandchildren, one brother George Morton Kuhn, who is now 81 years of age of Fowler, Illinois and the sole survivor of the Kuhn family.

Besides these are numerous relatives and friends who mourn his passing and offer their sincere sympathy to the immediate family in this hour of their sad bereavement.
