Obituary
Richard F. Nelson was born Dec. 10, 1914 at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Nelson in Grant Township, Story County. He passed away May 14, 1958 at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 43 years, 5 months and 4 days.
He graduated from Nevada high school in 1932 and attended Iowa State College for one year. He entered the service in August of 1942 and was discharged in March of 1946. One year of his service was pent in Okinawa.l He was confirmed and became a member of Memorial Lutheran church at an early age.
On Jan. 11, 1942, Richard Nelson and Betty Nutty were married and he is now survived by his wife and one daughter, Nancy, aged 10, his mother, Mrs. Fred W. Nelson of Nevada, two brothers, Donald Nelson and Robert Nelson, both of Nevada, and one sister, Mrs. Vere Padellford of Des Moines. His father predeceased him in death in 1950.
Richard, known to his many friends as Dick, had been seriously ill for the past four and one-half months, the greater portion of this time being spent in the hospital here in Nevada.
Through all this period his spirits and morale remained amazingly high; he never complained but instead was most appreciative of the care he received from doctors and nurses, and for the daily visits from his family.
He was deeply devoted to their daughter, Nancy, and members of his family are most grateful for the fact that she was allowed to visit him in the hospital about a week previous to his death.
