Sudden Death Of Mrs. E.W. Samson Last Evening

Mrs. Elmous W. Samson, 58, beloved wife and mother, passed away quite suddenly at her home south of Nevada last night at 11:45. Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage.

In her usual health, Mrs. Samson was stricken at 5:30 p. m. while in the yard of her home. Medical aid was secured immediately but she passed away before midnight. Funeral arrangements were not complete at noon today but the service will possibly be on Sunday.

Mrs. Samson was born in Homer, Ill. 58 years ago last March. She married to Elmous Samson on March 7, 1914. Besides the husband she is survived by her daughter Melba, Mrs. Martin Paulson of Ames and the son Gerald Beckley of Nevada. She is also survived by one sister in Illinois and four brothers.

Mrs. Samson was a member of the Church of Christ, the W. R. C. and the Rebekah lodge.

Funeral service For Mrs. E. W. Samson Sunday Afternoon

The Nevada Church of Christ was filled Sunday afternoon at 2:30 with sorrowing relatives and friends assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to Mrs. E. W. Samson, 58, who had passed away from cerebral hemorrhage Wednesday night at 11:45 after a few hours illness.

The funeral service at the church was in charge of the Rev. C. E. Lookingbill and at the graveside by the Nevada Rebekah lodge of which the deceased had been an active member.

Many beautiful flowers banked the bier testifying silently to the love and respect in which the deceased had been held in this community. The flowers were cared for by members of the Woman's Relief Corps.

Mrs. Richard Benson was at the piano. Mrs. Kenneth Rapp and Mrs. Kenneth Hall sang "Face to Face" and "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder."

The pall bearers were N. H. Frey, Leslie McBride, Frank Adams, Fred Larson, Guy French and Claude Gore.

The following obituary was read at the funeral service:

"Bessie Blanche Samson, daughter of George L. and Elizabeth Covert was born at Homer, Illinois March 4, 1887, where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to Ralph L. Darling in the year 1904. To this union one daughter was born, Melba.

In the year 1914 she was united in marriage to Elmous W. Samson. The same year they moved to Nevada, Iowa, where they have made their home until her death.

In the year 1918 they took Gerald Beckley, a nephew of Mr. Samson, at the age of 9 months and gave him a home until he grew to manhood. The two children, Melba and Gerald were raised as brother and sister.

When yet a girl, Mrs. Samson gave her life to Christ and united with the Christian Church in which Church she has since been a most faithful worker. She was a member of the Nevada Rebekah Lodge No. 234; an active member of the Nevada Woman's Relief Corps, and a member of the Sunny Central Club.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, Elmous Samson, her daughter, Melba, now Mrs. Martin Paulson of Ames, and the son Gerald of Nevada, one sister Mrs. Asa Eastwood of Springfield, Illinois; four brothers Roy Covert of Danville, Illinois, Elmer of Homer, Illinois, Howard of Chicago, and Paul of Bloomington, Illinois, also one aunt, Mrs. Cora Fithian of Danville, Illinois; four grandchildren, Ardis Jean Paulson, Cadet Nurse at Broadlawn's Hospital in Des Moines and Neva Lee Paulson of Ames, Lonnie Gerald and Lorraine Beckley of Nevada also survive her.

She was a loving wife and kind mother.

The following relatives from out of town were in attendance at the last rites: Mr. and Mrs. Asa Eastwood, Springfield, Ill.; Cora Fithian, and Roy Covert, Danville, Ill.; Elmer Covert, Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Samson and daughter Martha and Mrs. Harry Samson of Homer, Ill.; Mrs. Cecil Knox, Urbana, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Samson, Story City; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bosch, Melbourne; Mrs. Don Stevenson, Marshalltown; Charles Samson, Jr., Pueblo, Colorado; Mrs. Emza Samson, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Samson, Mrs. Elouise Fry and Miss Virginia Samson.
