DR. F. S. SMITH
Dr. F. S. Smith, 90, dean of the Story County Medical Association, and for ever half a century an active physician and surgeon in Nevada and Story county, died Tuesday.*
Bone in Venango county, Penna., on July 31, 1853, he was nearing his 90th birthday anniversary of which over 58 years had been spent in Nevada, coming here from Elbron, Tama county, Mar. 4, 1885.
During his long, active practice, Dr. Smith had a wide territory to which he ministered as family physician. In the 'horse and buggy days', when he spent a large part of his time traveling from home to home, answering calls to homes on the farms and in smaller towns in every corner of the county, he formed many warm personal friendships and was respected as a wise physician and valued personal counsellor.
In his immediate family, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Amanda Smith; two sons, Col. Roy W. Smith, Camp Edwards, Mass., and Capt. D. W. Smith, Fort Lewis, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Maude Weaver, Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. Alice Smith Boyd, Kirkland, Wash., and Mrs. Ella McKim, Nevada; and brother, Judge W. A. Smith, of Dubuque.
