DORREL L. APPELGATE

Dorrell Appelgate, 74, of Nevada, died Sunday, April 21, 1985, at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames. Death was due to cancer.

He was born Dec. 27, 1910, south of Nevada, Ia., to Lewis McClellan Appelgate and Lida Belle (Chapman) Appelgate.

His first marriage was to Ruth Marie Brecht. She died Nov. 22, 1975. Hen then married Iola Brendeland at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, Jan. 6, 1979. She survives.

Mr. Appelgate was a lifetime resident of Nevada. He was a carpenter and in 1964 he began working for Donnelley marketing, retiring in 1976.

He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Nevada.

Survivors include his wife, Iola; a son, Bill Appelgate of Nevada; two daughters, Mary Akers of Iowa Falls and Patricia Tempele of Summersville, S.C.; a brother, Glen Appelgate of Nevada; a sister, Doris Appelgate of Nevada, and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, a brother, Ralph Appelgate; two sisters, Ruth Cherryholmes and Lela Appelgate.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Memorial Lutheran Church, Nevada, with Pastor Forrest Chaffee officiating. Pallbearers will be Ralph Appelgate, Robert Klopping, Craig Taylor, Wayne Reed, Keith Cherryholmes and Larry Brecht.

Interment will be in Nevada Cemetery.

Ryan Funeral Home on Lincoln Highway in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
