Marvin L. Sorensen, 27 years old, passed away at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames last evening at 7 o'clock following a plane crash which occurred at 5 p.m. on the D. A. Jay farm east of Ames.

Sorensen had flown the plane to the Jay farm where his brothers, Kermit and Richard were making hay for Mr. Jay. The mishap occurred as Sorensen had taken the plane off the ground. After gaining an altitude of about 150 ft. be banked the plane for a turn. The plane apparently his a down current and crashed in a cornfield on the Jay farm. The plane, which was owned by Marvin, and his brother, Richard, caught fire in the crash and was completely demolished by flames. Sorensen died of burns.

His brothers, Richard and Kermit, together with Mr. Jay and Arthur Hubner, rushed immediately to the scene of the crash and pulled him from the wreckage. Besides the severe burns inflicted, both of his legs and jaw bone were broken. He was still conscious when taken from the plane.

Veteran of Korea

Marvin L. Sorensen was a member of the Memorial Lutheran church in Nevada. He graduated from the Milford Township school in 1944. He was a veteran in the Korean conflict having served three years in the U. S. Army. He served 1 1/2 years in Japan and 7 months on the battle front in Korea. He was a corporal at the time of his discharge fro duty on May 1951.

Sorensen made his home with his parents and was employed by contractor Harold Knudson hauling gravel for Story county roads.

Marvin L. Sorensen is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sorensen of 816 Lincoln avenue, Nevada, two brothers, Kermit and Richard, and one sister, Lois Jean Sandvold.
