Dorothy Mae Hart Thomson was born in White Pigeon, Michigan, on April 11, 1921, to George and Florence Hart. She graduated from Kalamazoo College and attended Iowa State College while working on a Masters degree in zoology. She married George W. Thomson in 1945 and lived in Ames, Iowa, where they raised three sons. After George’s death in 1993, she married John “Jack” Shelley and continued to live in Ames until her death.
Dorothy died on October 20, 2013, at Northcrest Community’s Heartwood House in Ames at 92 years of age.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Raymond (Becky) and Craig (Roberta Moltzen); grandchildren, Ben Thomson (Kristen) and Anne Kemper (James); and stepsons, John (Patricia Burgess) and Steve (Janine) Shelley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Thomson; second husband, Jack Shelley; son, Bruce Thomson; former daughter-in-law, Betsy Ball; sisters, Vivian Roelof and Ardelle Trim; and brother, Edgar Hart.
