Luther R. Hunt Dead; Funeral Here on Sunday
Luther R. Hunt, for over thirty years a resident of Nevada, died at his home at 525 Seventh street at 5:00 a. m. today, after a lingering illness.
Mr. Hunt, for the past ten years conducting what was known at Hunt's Novelty store at 1037 Main street, had been failing in health for some time and had been compelled to give up his business several months ago and retire from active life.
Funeral services will be held at the Bishop Funeral home Sunday afternoon at 3:00, after which the body will be laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery. The service will be in charge of his pastor Dr. C. D. Loose and commitment will be under the ritualistic ceremonies of the Masonic lodge.
Mr. Hunt was a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was married to Miss Windsor Carter at Newport, Kentucky, May 7, 1890 and then later located in Chicago, where he was connected with one of the large department stores as a salesman.
It was about thirty years ago that Mr. and Mrs. Hunt came to Nevada and engaged in the Mercantile business. This they continued until the World War when Mr. Hunt entered the YMCA service and spent a year in France. In the meantime the business here was closed out.
Returning to Nevada after the war he was appointed Deputy Clerk of the District Court under L. E Davisson, in which position he spent eight years.
Ten years ago he reentered business for himself and with assistance of Mrs. Hunt conducted a successful business in the Freeland building until the state of his health made it necessary that they dispose of the business.
Mr. Hunt had long been an active member of the Methodist church, as he was of the Masonic and Knights of Pythias lodge.
While of a quiet and somewhat retiring disposition Mr. Hunt had gained a wide acquaintance through his long term of years here and leaves a large circle of friends who admitted him for his many sterling qualities.
There were no children in the family and in his death he leaves only his wife and a few other relatives, including one sister Mrs. R. W. Medkirk of Mount Vernon, O., who is very seriously ill at this time and will be unable to be present at the funeral.
Mrs. C. E. Bean, a sister of Mrs. Hunt, had spent since May 1st here assisting in the care of Mr. Hunt and daughter of Mrs. Bean, Mrs. Charles Skidmore of Chicago is expected here today. Lawrence Beecher, a nephew of Mr. Hunt, is expected here Friday from his home at Mount Vernon, Ohio.
