Dick Boller Dies; Was Member of Local Fire Cepartment for Fifty-One Years

A. W. R. (Dick) Boller, 91, veteran sheriff's officer and a member of the Nevada Fire Department for 51 years, died at the Nevada hospital at 3:15 p.m. Monday*, a few hours after he was admitted.

Boller was born August 7, 1872 in Breslau, Germany, the son of Jacob and Amelia Boller. He had lived in Nevada for 70 years.

An interior and exterior decorator, Boller served on the Nevada Police Department for time. He became a deputy sheriff and served in that capacity under seven different sheriffs.

Boller organized the original fire department here and served as a member for 51 years. For 27 years he was Fire Chief.

In 1954 the Nevada Community Club presented Boller with its distinguished citizen award.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are two sons, Allen t. Boller of Atlantic and Jack W. Boller, Waterloo; six daughters, Mrs. Clyde Steward and Mrs. Harry Forbes of Nevada, Mrs Ralph Lehman of Collins, Mrs. C. W. Maurer of Ames, Mrs. Charles Terrell of Des Moines and Gladys Kilbury of Afton, seventeen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by on son, Max, in 1947, one daughter Loretta in 1917, and his wife, Florence, in 1953.

Funeral services will be at the Ryan Funeral Home Thursday afternoon at 2 p. m. with the Rev. Charles Terrell officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada Cemetery.
