From Fredergill Family Funeral Home obituary, Collins and Zearing, Story County, Iowa:

Stella Faye (Cockerham) Carver

Stella (Cockerham) Carver left this earth peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Zearing Christian Church. Following services there will be a celebration of Stella’s life in the fellowship room of the church. Internment of cremains will follow at the Lincoln Township Cemetery.

Stella Faye was born on May 17, 1928, to Neris and Anna (Lehman) Cockerham in rural Hardin County. She graduated from Zearing Consolidated High School in 1947. On May 15, 1949, Stella was united in marriage to Gerald Wayne Carver. They made their life-long home in Zearing and raised four children, Gregg, Denise, Brent and Lance.

Never afraid of hard work, over the years Stella was employed at the Utica in Des Moines, Cerke Ford Motor Co. in Zearing, Donnelley’s in Nevada, and retired from Colonial Manor in Zearing after 20 years. The Carvers spent their free time boating, fishing and fun times with all their good friends and family. They always had an abundant garden to share with others. Stella’s main objective in life was to provide a loving (and very tidy) home for her family, making sure they were well fed and cared for at all times... and we thank her for all she did.

Stella is survived by daughter Denise (Ralph) Hill of Sioux Falls, SD; sons Brent Carver and Lance(Jacki Pickles) Carver of Zearing; brother Irvin Cockerham of Nevada; daughter-in-law Carrie Fulton Carver of Lakewood, CO; 6 grandchildren: Amber (David) Kabala of Overland Park, KS; Jared (Mindy) Hill of Hartford, SD; Nathan (Shannon) Hill of Overland Park, KS; Drew (Mallory Lutjen) Carver of Ankeny; Jordan Carver and Genna Carver of Lakewood, CO; great-grandson Strider Wayne Kabala; brother-in-law Russell Dallas (Bea) Carver of Saint Joseph, MO; 16 nieces and nephews; and many loving friends and relatives.

Stella was preceded in death by her devoted husband Wayne; son Gregg; daughter-in-law Becky Heilesen Carver; parents Neris and Anna Cockerham; and Wayne’s parents Russell and Alma Carver.

Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing has been entrusted with the care of Stella and her family. (641) 487-7500
