Frederick Louis Karges, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis F. Karges, was born in St. Jacobs, Ill., Sept 4, 1883. When a babe of six weeks he was baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran church at the place of his birth. When Frederick Louis was six years old, the family moved to Plattsmouth, Neb. Here the home was established for a number of years. Later the family moved to Avoca, Iowa. As a boy he attended school in Plattsmouth, Nebraska and Avoca, Iowa.
Following his school work, he was employed by the telephone company of Lincoln, Neb., where he became a most capable cable splicer. Later he was employed by the Western Electric Co. of Mason City and remained with this company until 1915. In this year Mr. Karges came to Nevada and entered into business for himself. He operated the shop, then located where the present Deep Rock station now stands. Mr. Karges, because of the high quality of his work, quickly won the confidence of the people of this community and his business grew from the first day he opened his shop.
In 1919, Mr. Karges bought the property where the Karges Super Service station now stands. This business has steadily grown from small beginning until today it is one of the leading service stations in Nevada.
It was due to Mr. Karges devotion to his work and his consistent interest in the service he was giving his patrons that has made for him an abiding place in the confidence and affection of his friends and patrons. And it has been due to his fidelity and strict, honest dealings in all his business relations that has won for him a piece in the hearts of a large company of friends who are sorely grieved at his passing out of their life and the life of this community.
Mr. Karges was united in holy wedlock to Miss Alta M. Lindaman of Charles City, Iowa in Marshalltown, Iowa , November 18, 1916. To this union one son was born, Robert Gordon, November 12, 1917. The entire married life of Mr. and Mrs. Karges has been lived in Nevada.
Under the pastoral direction of Dr. C. N. Swihart, Mr. Karges united with Memorial Lutheran church and was a member of this church at the time of his death. he was also a member of Nevada lodge No. 99, of the Masonic fraternity.
