May 11, 1927, to May 10, 1998Loren L. Lock, 70, of Nevada, died Sunday, May 10, of cancer at his home.
He was born May 11, 1927, in Story City to Cassell and Ruby (Sowers) Lock. He was a 1947 graduate of Nevada High School and married Anita Mae Creek on July 24, 1955, in Arkansas. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a machine mechanic for R.H. Donnelley Marketing for 27 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ in Nevada, Nevada V.F.W. Post #2209 and the Nevada Masonic Lodge #99 AF & AM. He was a lifelong resident of Story County and enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds and squirrels.
Survivors include his wife, Anita Lock of Nevada; a daughter, Rebecca (and Dan) Vaughn of Nevada; a step-son, Jerry Hainline of Seattle, Wash.; five grandsons, Johnathan, Joshua and Jacob Vaughn of Nevada and Jerrod and Jerramy Hainline, both of Seattle; a brother, Ronald Lock of Huxley; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special daughter, Lisa Vaughan and her children, Matthew, Megan and Mackenzie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Murial Lock and Lola Mae Stole.
Visitation will be held today (May 14) from 3-7:30 p.m. with the family present from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ with Dr. Fred C. Danforth officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Nevada V.F.W. Post #2209 at the Evergreen Memory Cemetery in Nevada. A memorial fund has been established.
