From Fredergill Family Funeral Home obituary, Collins and Zearing, Story County, Iowa:
Blanche R. Nessa, 86, of rural McCallsburg went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, July 16, 2013. Visitation will be on Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 4-6 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. Memorial services will be on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Kathy Sandmann officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Blanche was born to Peter and Sadie (Osmundson) Johnson in Scott Township, Hamilton County, Iowa on September 7, 1926. She attended several elementary schools and graduated from McCallsburg High School in 1944. After graduation, Blanche began working at Donnelly’s. At about this time Blanche was introduced by a good friend to Milford Nessa. On December 4, 1946, Milford and Blanche were married at the Zion Lutheran Church outside of Garden City and began their life long partnership until Milford’s death in 2011. They moved to the south Nessa farm northeast of McCallsburg shortly after their marriage. In 1956, they moved just up the road to the north Nessa farm where they spent the rest of their lives. She and Milford were blessed with 3 sons and farmed until 1986. In 1966, Blanche went to beauty school and upon graduation began her long career as a beautician for countless ladies in the area. She also had the opportunity to give “first haircuts” to many of her grandchildren. Blanche was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #334 in McCallsburg. She had a great love for her family. She enjoyed baking and cooking for everyone, especially her “famous kringla.” She also enjoyed gardening, cross stitching, working and chatting in her hair salon, and spending time with her many friends. She was happiest when her family was all together at the farm and she was cooking dinner for everyone.
Those left to cherish Blanche's memory are her loving sons, Terry (Judi) Nessa of Huxley, Scott (Barb) Nessa of Ankeny, and Kevin (Janie) Nessa of Zearing; two extended family members Bud (Delores) Strum of Nevada, and Chuck (Shirley) Ballard of McCallsburg; eight grandchildren Stacie (Mike Fox) Nessa, Jamie (Eric) Eilers, Michael (Brad) Nessa, Jennifer (Turker Kucuk) Nessa, Peter (Anne Barber) Nessa, Luke (Megan) Nessa, Garret Nessa, and Kelly Nessa; great-grandchildren Dodger Nessa Fox, Lidya Nessa Kucuk, Hudson Michael Eilers, and Georgia Vivian Eilers; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. She was one of the kindest people to walk this earth and we will miss her greatly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 64 years, Milford , 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Blanche R. Nessa Memorial Fund.
Blessed be the memory of Blanche Nessa.
