Elaine Rose West, 64, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 19, 2013 at Israel Hospice House in Ames, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames, IA. Visitation will be from 5 pm to 7 pm Monday at the church. Burial will be at the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Elaine Rose Sternberg was born July 31, 1948 to Eric Oscar and Gesine Bernadine (Schmidt) Sternberg. She grew up in Los Angeles, CA and graduated from George Washington High School. After graduating from cosmetology school she moved to Iowa and met Dennis.

On April 22, 1972 in Hubbard, IA, Elaine was united in marriage to Dennis Myron West. To this union three children were born, Erika, Susan, and Michael. The family made their home in Colo, IA where Elaine managed the Casey's General Store. Elaine later took a position as an administrative assistant at National Veterinary Services Laboratories and the couple settled in Ames in 1991.

In January 2012, Elaine was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and recently participated in a research study at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. There she underwent a stem cell transplant. Her cancer caused numerous complications resulting in her death.

Elaine served as faithful member at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames, serving on the altar guild, as flower coordinator, and as cradle roll organizer.

She enjoyed flowers, sewing, reading, crossword puzzles, shopping and being a "running buddy." Most of all she loved spending time with her beloved family and helping others.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis; children, Erika Jean, Susan Elaine (James Fangmann), and Michael Dennis; grandchildren, Parker William, Ty Michael, Isaac James, and Julia Margaret; siblings, Marlene Herget and Dennis (Barbara) Sternberg; and many aunts, uncles, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother-in-law, Myron and Margaret West; and nephew, Jason West.
