Michael D. Ramsdell, 66, of Des Moines, died Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Michael was born June 5, 1947, the son of Glen G. and Dorothy Louise (Lindberg) Ramsdell. Michael served in the Marines Corps in Vietnam and received two Purple Hearts for his wounds. He was a painter and worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines for thirty years. He loved hunting, shooting, fishing, cooking, woodworking, and a good inside the family joke. Michael dearly loved his family and grandchildren.

Michael is survived by wife, Paula, of Des Moines; three sons: Brad (Jodi) Ramsdell of Paola, Kansas, Dale (Melissa) Higgins of Maxwell, Iowa, Joey Higgins of Ankeny, Iowa; two daughters: Shelly Ramsdell of Springhill, Kansas, Sarah (Brad) Hovey of Tucson, Arizona; and ten grandchildren.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Maxwell Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
