Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

VaDonna (Donna) Swanson passed away at Israel Family Hospice House on Saturday, July 20, 2013. Services will be Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, with visitation one hour prior to services. She will be laid to rest at Hillsdale Cemetery in Madrid.

Donna was born near Ellsworth on Aug. 18, 1922, to Clarence and Anna (Twedt) Thompson. She and Raymond C. Swanson were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, on September 30, 1946. They had two sons, Duane and Dennis.

Early on, Donna worked for Fareway, the Ames school system and Adams Funeral Home, but her most important and cherished role was that of a homemaker. She loved baking, sewing, gardening and helping others. She was an avid Iowa State basketball fan.

She will be lovingly missed by her two sons Duane (Marty) Swanson and Dennis (Trish) Swanson, of Ames; grandchildren Kirstin Brooks and Scott (Yolanda) Hohenshell; and great-grandchildren Jakob Peterson, Ashley Newman, and Kira Aramori, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Swanson in 1996; her parents; brother Everly (Bud) Thompson; and sister Doreen Hauge.

Memorials may be sent to the family to be determined at a later date.
