Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Dayna Jean Mortvedt, 21, of Story City, passed away peacefully Friday, July 12, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City following a severe brainstem stroke. The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 15th in the chapel at Bethany Life Communities, 212 Lafayette in Story City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 16th at Harvest Evangelical Free Church, 524 River Hills Drive in Story City with Pastor Jim Norem officiating.

Dayna was born September 30, 1991 to Doug and Brenda (Disbrowe) Mortvedt. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Story City. Dayna graduated Roland-Story High School in 2010 where she participated in Health Occupation Students of America. Dayna was employed at Bethany Life Communities as a LPN and was attending DMACC to earn her Registered Nursing degree. She enjoyed working with and caring for her resident friends.

In addition to her parents, Dayna is survived by her brother, Drew Mortvedt of Story City; boyfriend, Nick Dewitt of Jewell; grandparents, Steve and Linda Disbrowe and Everett Mortvedt, all of Story City; two aunts, Joni (Randy) Gorman of Ames and Teri (Jeremy) Vrchoticky of St. Petersburg, Florida; her cousins, Dustin (Julie) Gorman and family of Boone, Gretjin Gorman, Brandin Gorman and Randijo Gorman, all of Ames and Olivia Vrchoticky and Jake Vrchoticky of St. Petersburg; three great-aunts, Roxie (Dennis) Steding of Iowa Falls, Becky (Kevin) Watson of Story City and Patty (Mark) Ludwig of Story City; numerous second cousins; her dog, Sky; her cat, Stoney; fish; and an enormous number of friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Opal Mortvedt; her uncle, Jerry Mortvedt; her great-grandparents, Harold and Dorothy Holm, Robert and Lucille Mathis and Elmer and Selma Mortvedt; and great-aunts, Mary Lucy Flynn and Salvina Satre.

Dayna was a true redhead and full of life. Many referred to her as their “Little Firecracker”. We will miss her beautiful smile, great dimples and infectious giggle.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Dayna’s family in her honor.
