From Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:

Lyle E. "Hutch" Hutchinson
Aug. 24, 1953 - Jan. 20, 2013

Lyle E. "Hutch" Hutchinson, 59, of Ames, Iowa, passed away Jan. 20, 2013, after battling lung cancer. He was born Aug. 24, 1953, in Breckenridge, Minn., to Paul and Charlotte Hutchinson and grew up in Fargo/West Fargo, N.D., and later Story City, Iowa, where he graduated from Roland-Story High School in 1971.

He is survived by his mother, Charlotte Hutchinson, of Aberdeen, Idaho; sister Pamela J.S. Hutchinson (Thomas Salaiz), also of Aberdeen, Idaho; sister Cheryl K. Ellis (Jeff), of Nevada, Iowa; sister, Julie A. Hutchinson, of Boise, Idaho; nephews, Adam and Shane Ellis; and long-time companion, Catherine Brodie, of Ames. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Hutchinson.

In the past, Hutch was employed at Vern's Skelly, Story City; Donnelly Marketing, Nevada; Butler Manufacturing, Story City; ALMACO, Nevada; and from 1989-2013 as a machinist/fabricator at Technical Services, Inc., Ames.

As a little boy, Hutch enjoyed spending time with his dad (also known as Hutch), especially watching the now-classic westerns Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Have Gun Will Travel, and The Rifleman on TV. At four years of age, he could name the make and model of every car he saw on the road! These activities led to his lifelong passions for Harley-Davidsons, antique firearms, and all things having to do with the history of the American West. Hutch was an aficionado on many subjects and often trounced his sisters at Trivial Pursuit. He was a true original and a free spirit who enjoyed a good joke, a good smoke, a cold beer, and the wind in his hair as he rumbled and roared down the highway on his beloved Harley with his best friend Davis to the famous motorcycle rally in Sturgis, S.D.

The family sends their grateful thanks to the wonderful and caring people of Homeward Hospice-Mary Greeley Medical Center, especially homecare hospice nurse (and fellow motorcycle enthusiast!) Leigh Ann Gibbs.

A memorial service complete with a motorcycle run to celebrate Hutch's life will be held at a date yet to be determined in April, so get ready to ride!
