Robert George Summerville
September 14, 1918 - March 25, 2013

Robert George Summerville, age 94, of Story City, Iowa, formerly of Naples, Florida, and Iowa Falls, Iowa, died Monday, March 25, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. Services will be Saturday, March 30, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City, with Chaplain Sandy Anenson, Bethany Life Communities, officiating.

Born September 14, 1918, in Chillicothe, Missouri, Mr. Summerville was the son of William and Illa (McCormack) Summerville. On July 28, 1935, he married Maxine Briggle in Atlantic, Iowa, and they moved to Odebolt, Iowa. He worked as manager for several Green Bay Lumber Company lumberyards before joining Iowa Lumber and Supply in Early, Iowa, in 1952 as manager. In 1966, Mr. and Mrs. Summerville moved to Iowa Falls, Iowa, where Iowa Lumber and Supply, which later became Payless Cashways, Inc., relocated its headquarters. He was vice president of purchasing for the company until his retirement. He and his wife lived in Iowa Falls and Naples, Florida, where he continued to reside until 2011, when he moved to Bethany Manor in Story City.

Mr. Summerville served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army infantry in the Pacific, and over the years he was active in the communities in which he and his family lived. He served as a volunteer firefighter and was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Lion's Club, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and a 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by two daughters, Kay (Corwin) Stephan of Ames and Judy Summerville of Bloomington, Indiana; four grandchildren, Susan (Dave) Holloway, Steven (Sonja) Stephan, Barbara (John) Leise and Danielle O'Donnol; and four great-grandchildren. His wife, parents, three sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

Friends may call at Bethany Manor Chapel from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday March 30. Burial will be at Odebolt Cemetery in Odebolt.
