Sylvia B. Twedt
November 2, 1915 - June 30, 2013

Sylvia Berdelle (Wierson) Twedt of Ankeny, formerly Story City, was born near Buckeye, IA on November 2, 1915 to Nels and Martha (Benson) Wierson. Sylvia, 97, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston. Services will be July 6, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City with visitation at 10 a.m. followed by the Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at the Roland Cemetery.

Sylvia took pride in the fact that she started her education in a one room school house with two students in her class. She went on to graduate from Radcliffe High School in 1933. Sylvia attended Iowa Beauty School and graduated in 1934. From there she owned and operated her own beauty shop for many years.

Sylvia married Amil Twedt of Roland in 1938. During their first years of marriage they owned and operated a grocery store in Baxter. In 1941 they moved to the family farm near Roland and lived there until their retirement. Sylvia and Amil moved to Story City, July 4, 1984. Amil passed away on May 18, 1989, with Sylvia moving later to Timberland Village in Story City. Sylvia then moved to Vintage Hills at Prairie Trail, in Ankeny, in December 2012.

Sylvia is survived by two sons, Dean (Cathy) Twedt of Milton, WV, Owen (Ann) Twedt of Johnston; daughter-in-law, Myrna Twedt of Marion; sister-in-law, Shirley Post of Nevada; grandchildren: Stephanie (Scott) Uhlir, Carrie Ann (Joel) Phillips, Josh (Carmen) Twedt, Adam (Katie) Twedt; great grandchildren: Alexandra and Nicholas Uhlir, Ashton and Ava Phillips, Austin Twedt, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amil; parents, Nels and Martha; two brothers, Owen and Norris; son, Alan Twedt; granddaughter, Sarah Ann Twedt; brother-in-law, Orlene Twedt; sister-in-law, Helen Eller; niece, Sandee Overson; and good friend, Clarence Hove.

Sylvia most valued her family, faith in God, her Norwegian heritage, immaculate hair creations, and beautiful flower gardens. She was extremely proud that her three sons served in the U.S. Navy. Her family wishes to extend appreciation to the caregivers at Timberland Village, Vintage Hills at Prairie Trail, and Bishop Drumm Retirement Center for their care and support for Sylvia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Story City, IA.
