Betty E. Shearer
August 18, 1921 - May 26, 2013

Harriette “Betty” Elizabeth (Little) Shearer was born August 18, 1921 to Carl and May Belle (Priestly) Little in Ames, Iowa. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ames where she was a very active quilter. She attended Iowa State University and was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She was also an active supporter of the League of Women Voters. Betty loved to crochet, quilt and work in her garden. She and her late husband Robert “Bob” Shearer were married for over 65 years.

Betty was well-known for her kindness, big heart and great sense of humor. Even in the final days of her journey, she had a sparkle in her eye and shared lots of laughter with her family and the Northcrest staff. The family wants to give special thanks to Northcrest for the wonderful care that they gave both Bob and Betty during their years there.

Betty passed away on May 26, 2013 at Northcrest Retirement Community in Ames at 91 years of age.
Betty is survived by her four children, Steve Shearer of Tampa, Florida, Carla (Vito) Blomo of Sacramento, California, Barbara (Dennis) Linderbaum of West Des Moines, and Jim Shearer of San Francisco, California; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Betty will be missed greatly by her family and everyone who knew her.
A private family burial will be held at the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Homeward Hospice, c/o of Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
