Louise C. Tungesvick
September 6, 1913 - May 4, 2013Louise Christine Tungesvick was born September 6, 1913 in Story City, IA and died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. She was the third of five daughter born to Ole J. and Ellen Hovland. Her four sisters were Mabel Hovland, Anna Shold, Esther Olson and Alma Hovland. Louise was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, Roland, IA. She lived near and went to school in Milford Township. Following graduation she lived and worked in Ames, for the ISU professors and coaches.
On May 10, 1936 Louise and Harvey G. Tungesvick were married at Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. They farmed northwest of Story City. In 1950 they bought the Rosendale General Store and ran the store and lived in the adjacent house. Louise was always justifiably proud of her beautiful yard and flowers. She moved to an apartment in Story City in 1984 and from there to Cedar Place in 2009.
Louise served for 18 years as a nursing assistant at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, where she was much appreciated for her excellent work and for her outstanding kringla.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church until she moved into town and joined Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she served several years as ELCW President. Louise’s greatest joy was always her family and she recognized and appreciated the special qualities of each one.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her four sisters and her nephew, Ronald Olson. She is survived by her children: Janet Louise Tungesvick of Windsor Heights, IA, Paul (Sandi) Tungesvick of Loveland, CO and their children: Joni (Ed) Caverly and their sons, Matt and Brian; son Jeff of Denver and son Kevin of Anderson, IN; Loren Tungesvick of Story City and his children: Laura (Brian) Klug of Cameron, MO and children Mariah and Mason; and his son James Tungesvick of Story City; Steve (Shelley) Tungesvick of Loveland, CO and their children: Jessica and Luke. She is also survived by nephews: John Shold and his family, David Shold, Jim (Judy) Olson and family, Dennis (Calleen) Olson and family and Marcie Olson (widow of Ron Olson and their family and Don (Carol) Tungesvick of Calloway, MN.
