From Story County Watchman April 9, 1897

Tuesday afternoon Ed. Carlson* committed suicide at Story City by shooting himself through the head. The only reason given for the rash act was that of a religious enthusiast, and there was no apparent cause for it. He has number of relatives in that vicinity, and was well to do.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Story County death records confirm this is actually "Andrew P. Carlson." I confirmed his parentage in the 1870 Lafayette Twp., Story County, Iowa census in which he is listed as age 13 with his parents (Carl and Christine Hanson) as A.P.C. Hanson. Further confirming his parentage and that Andrew was known as both Carlson and Hanson, he is buried in the Story City Cemetery beside his parents (Carl Hanson and Annie Christine Hanson) listed on the HANSON stone as: Andrew P. Carlson.
