June 8, 1915-Feb. 1, 2004

Pearle "Peg" Elaine Annis, 88, of Story City, died Sunday, Feb. 1, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb 4, at Grace United Methodist Church in Story City, with the Rev. Brian McNamara officiating.

Pearle (Peggy) Elaine Annis was born June 8, 1915 in Cloebrook, N.H., to Walter and Irva (Wiswell) Goodwin. She attneded a country shcool up through eighth grade and transferred to Colebrook High School, from where she graduated in 1933. After high school, she wen to Concord, N.H., to attend business school and upon completion of her business degree accepted a position as the personal secretary to Mr. Davis of the Davis Paper Company in West Hokinton, N.H.

While working for the Davis Paper Company, she met Clifford L. Annis, who was attending the University of New Hampshire. They were married on Nov. 9, 1940. Clifford graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1941 and drove out to Centerville in a 1931 Ford to work for Swift and Co. Peggy was to follow shortly after by way of the train.

Peggy and Clifford had four children, all born in Centerville. After severa moves within a 14-year period, the Annis family made their final move in 1955 to Story City. Peggy and Clifford lived at that same residence for more than 45 years.

To help make ends meet, Peggy did home typing for Donnelley's Corporation for what she said "was far too many years." After her own four children left, Peggy decided she needed an extended family so she did baby sitting in her home. Within a 20-year period, Peggy cared for some 34 children. Peggy was a member of PEO.

Peggy moved into Timberland Senior Apartments in August 2003. She very much loved her new apartment but it was short lived. Her health started deteriorating and in early January, Peggy was diagnosed with an acute case of leukemia. On Jan. 21, she was moved to Israel Hospice Home in Ames, where she passed away peacefully on Jan. 30 surrounded by her family.

She is survived by one sister, Thelma Fogg of Colebrook, N.H.; one daughter, Elaine (Carroll) Lovig of Story City; three sons, Fred (June) of Indianola, Donald of Galesville, Wis., and Michael (Patti) of Athens, Ga. She had seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Memorials may be made to Israel Hospice House.
