Story City Rites For Mrs. Valen

Mrs. Belle (Hans) Valen, 65, died at the Story County Hospital in Nevada at 11:15 a.m. Saturday. She had been a patient one week.

Born on a farm near Radcliffe, she had lived in the Story City area all her life.

Funeral services were held today in the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Story City with the Rev. T. J. Alvestead, Ames, officiating. Burial was in the Story City Cemetery.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Twedt, Faribault, Minn., and Mrs. Hazel March, Minneapolis, Minn.; two grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Emma Vickre, Story City; Mrs. Olive Friest, Fadcliffe, and Mrs. Nellie Olson, Radcliffe adn one brother Otis Wierson, Radcliffe.

Funeral services sere held Oct. 7 from the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City for Mrs. Belle Valen, who died Oct. 5.

The Rev. T. H. Alvestad of Ames officiated. Pallbearers were nephews Kenneth Friest, Virgil Beran, Amos Friest, Virgil Beran, Amos Friest, Arnold Vickre, Milford Olson and Harold Tjelmeland. Burial was in Story City municipal cemetery.

Isabelle Wierson was born June 24, 1892 near Radcliffe. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Roland.

In March, 1912, she and Ingvald Thompson of Radcliffe were married. They had three daughters, two of whom are still living. They are Mrs. Lillian Twedt of Faribault, Minn., and Mrs. Hazel Marsh of Minneapolis, Minn., Ethel June, the third daughter, died at the age of two.

Mr. Thompson died in March, 1919, at Dexter, Minn. The family later moved to Story City.

She and Hans L. Valen were married in June, 1938. He died in July, 1952.

Survivors include her two daughters, a step-daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Craig of Story City, three sisters, Mrs. Emma Vickre, Story City and Mrs. Nellie Olson and Olive Friest, both of Radcliffe; a brother, Otis Wierson, Radcliffe and three grandchildren.
