Funeral services were held Saturday for Mrs. Edward Charlson, 70, who died Wednesday afternoon at her home here. A prayer service was held at the Larson Funeral home followed by a service in Immanuel Lutheran Church with her pastor, the Rev. Ocee Johnson of St. Petri Lutheran church officiating. Burial was in the local cemetery.
Mrs. Nellie Claggett sang, "I Know of a Sleep in Jeseus Name" and Mrs. Marjorie Jacobson Kenny sang "The Lord's Prayer," accompanied by Mrs. Alfred Jacobson.
Pallbearers were Joe Donhowe, H. M. Kahley, Richard Munsen, Fred Cornelissen, Olaf Larson and A. D. Moulin.
Mrs. Charlson was born on Jan. 29, 1884 at Indianola, the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. A. W. Harned of Des Moines. She came to Story City more than 40 years ago to teach in the local school.
She was married to Edward Charlson 41 years ago.
Survivors include her husband and a foster daughter, Mrs. Milo Nessa of Story City, a sister, Mrs. E. T. Jervik of Denver, Colo., and an aunt, Mrs. F. A. Stevenson of Mason City.
Mrs. Charlson had filled a large place in our community life since she came to teach in our public schools some 40 years ago, With much ability she combined a genial nature that made her natural leader in educational, social and literary efforts. After her marriage she became a member of the St. Petri congregation, and also was a charter member of FZ chapter of the P. E. O.; served for years on the county board of education and was for a long time president of the local library board.
Her last illness really started four years ago, but down thru the years she maintained the calmness that was part of her nature and very few suspected that what developed as sarcoma of the neck glands would so soon prove fatal.
A great concourse of relatives and friends gathered at the funeral service last Saturday, bearing cogent evidence to the place she had come to fill in many hearts.
