Hubert Crandell, 91, of Ames, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Green Hills Health Center in Ames.

Hubert was born January 8, 1921, in Grand Junction, Iowa the son of Orville and Bertha (Minnick) Crandell.

He graduated from Dana High School in 1938.

On June 30, 1946, he was united in marriage to Marie Seymour in Fraser, Iowa.

Hubert served in the United States Army for almost four years during WWII. After his discharge from the Army, he went to work for the Greene County Auditor’s Office, becoming county auditor. Hubert then moved to Fraser. He worked in the Citizen’s National Bank in Boone for approximately 27 years before retiring.

Hubert was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Boone and the Elks Club along with being a 50-year member of the First United Methodist Church in Boone. He enjoyed coin collecting and following his grandchildren in their sporting activities.

His parents; brothers Denton and Donald; along with his sister, Lois Crandell Tabor preceded him in death.

Hubert is survived by his wife, Marie of Ames; his children: David Crandell and wife Jolene of Morton, Illinois, Steven Crandell and wife Cheryl of Ames and Blaine Crandell and wife Diane of Garfield, Arkansas; his three grandchildren: Richard Crandell and wife Judy of Holly Springs, North Carolina, Courtney Crandell and Tyler Crandell both of Ames; his brother, Ivan Crandell and wife Joan of Grand Junction; along with several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends.

Graveside services officiated by Chaplain Stanley Manus with interment to follow will be held on Monday morning, January 7th at 11:00 a.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, west of Des Moines near Van Meter, Iowa with military honors and presentation of the flag conducted by the U.S. Army Military Honor Guard.
