Elsie M. Madson
November 17, 1922 - January 21, 2013Elsie Marie Sinn was born November 17, 1922 to Charles Edward Sinn and Evelyn Lenora (Johnston) Sinn in Boone County, Iowa. Elsie married Jasper Madson on August 19, 1944 in Ames. They lived on their farm in Stanhope until 1986. Then they moved to Story City. She worked for 18 years as a line supervisor at Friley Hall Food Service.
Her grandfather taught her to play checkers, chinese checkers and dominos. Elsie was also an excellent cook and baker. Elsie helped Jasper on the farm which included raising turkeys. She enjoyed camping and had a membership at Cutty’s Campground, loved going to and having garage sales, and she enjoyed visiting with the neighbors. Her time at Bethany Manor found Elsie being a member of the Red Hat Society, playing cards, doing crafts and making jewelry, keeping in touch with many long term friends. Elsie kept up with all the happenings at Bethany Manor. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Jewell, Iowa.
She is survived by two sons, Delbert (Diane) of Bellevue, NE; Dennis of Humboldt, Iowa and a daughter, Ilene (Lloyd) Guard of Radcliffe, Iowa; four grandchildren, Jay Madson, Stacie (Daniel) Ricklefs, Stephanie Guard and Tyler Guard and two great grandchildren. William and Zachary Ricklefs.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jasper; an infant daughter, Janice and a sister, Fern Wheeler Elliot.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Jewell or Bethany Manor.
