Norma Raines Crawford
April 9, 1921 - January 4, 2013Norma Raines Crawford, 91, passed away at Israel Family Hospice House on Friday, January 4, 2013. Norma was born on a farm in Mercer County Missouri on April 9, 1921 to Otto and Ruth McReynolds Hashman. She married Earl Dean Raines on June 17, 1939. To this union was born one son, Max Eugene Raines. In her early years she was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Lineville, Iowa. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, helping with vacation bible school and often played guitar with her brother and sisters in the old fashion tent meetings.
In 1962 Norma settled in Ames. She worked for the Woolworth Company, Marion's Sandwich Shop, and then worked at 3-M which she retired from in 1984 following the death of Earl.
While in Ames she was a member of Life Pointe Church. In June of 1987 she was married to Wayne Crawford. The two of them spent many years traveling and enjoying each other's company.
Norma loved to keep house; she loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Her favorite pastimes were sewing, crocheting, and playing the piano. Norma became a resident of the Madrid Home in July of 2011 and made many friends.She is survived by her son Max and daughter in law Elaine Raines of Slater; two grandchildren, Holly (Jim) Christensen of Madrid and Melody (Brad) Moyer of Alleman; four great-grandchildren, Taylor and Aubrey Christensen, and Jordan and Savannah Moyer; two sisters, Hazel Berndt and Corinne (Carl) Lentz; many nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl, her husband Wayne, her parents, and one brother, Gene Hashman.
Norma was a faithful servant to our Lord and will be missed by many.
We would like to thank the staff at the Madrid Home, the Mary Greeley Medical Center, and the Israel Family Hospice House, for their kindness and care.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Life Pointe Church, 409 13th St., Ames at 10:30 am. A visitation will be held at Stevens Memorial Chapel, 607 28th St., Ames, on Tuesday evening from 4-6 pm.
