Annette Lucille Bates
May 6, 1943 - January 13, 2013

Annette L. Bates, 69 of Nevada, died on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16 at the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada with Pastor David Burling officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Annette was born on May 6, 1943 to Gerald Wayne and R. Geraldine L. (Prescott) Miller in Nevada. She was a 1961 graduate of Nevada High School and a graduate of AIB College in Des Moines. On April 20, 1963, Annette married Jim Bates at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada. She retired in June of 2005 from the National Animal Disease Center in Ames and was presently the Assistant Manager of the Flowerama also in Ames. Annette was an avid reader, loved spending time with her daughters and grandchildren and flower design.

Annette is survived by two daughters, Julie (David) Muehlenthaler of Goldsboro, NC and Stacie (Jeff Cichos) Bates of South Bend, IN; four grandchildren Jace, Tyler, Shelby Muehlenthaler and D. J. Bates; one great-grandchild Logan Bates; and a brother Craig Miller of Urbandale.

Annette was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Robert Wayne Miller on July 20, 2002.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 15 with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. again at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.

A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Annette.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Annette and her family.
