Mary Ann Nelson
March 21, 1952 - December 20, 2012

Mary Ann Nelson, 60 of Colo died on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 22 at the Colo United Methodist Church with Pastor Lewis Flanigan officiating. Burial will follow in the Colo Cemetery.

Mary was born on March 21, 1952 in Parkston, SD to Theodore and Olga (Herr) Schnabel. She was a 1970 graduate of Tripp High School and graduated in 1974 from the University of South Dakota at Springfield. Mary married Bruce Allen Nelson in May of 1974 and they divorced in November of 1996. She retired in 2008 as an elementary teacher for the Campbell County School District in Gillette, Wyoming. Mary had been a resident of Colo for the past four years. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and being with family and her grandchildren.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Heather (Ben) Spalding of Colo and Heidi Nelson of Anchorage, Alaska; two grandchildren Katie and Kooper Spalding; a brother LaRee (Marilyn) Schnabel of Anoka, MN; and a sister-in-law, Ginny Thew of Lincoln, NE.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Allen Schnabel in February of 1999.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Mary.

Chet Ryan Mortuary of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Mary and her family.
