Irene M. Olsan

Irene M. Olsan, age 96, of Nevada, Iowa (formerly of Story City), died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005 at Rolling Green Village in Nevada. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. in Story City with burial in the Story City Cemetery.

Irene Olsan was born June 29, 1908 in Hamilton County, near Story City, to Peter and Sarah (Johnson) Skogerboe. She was a graduate of Story City High School and from the nursing program at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

She married George Olsan on Oct. 6, 1933 in Des Moines. She resided in Des Moines from 1943 to 1963 when she and George moved to Story City.

Irene was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church and the Iowa Nurse's Alumni.

Survivors include two sons, Paul (Barbara) Olsan of Story City and Russell (Jinny) Olsan of Dickinson, Texas; two daughters, Sarah (Dale) Hughes of Denver, Colorado and Alice Stout of Grand Rapids, Michigan; ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Gerald, three brothers, Norman, Sherman and Ernest, and four sisters, Julia, Grace, Amy and Alma.

Memorials may be made to the Bertha Barlett Public Library in Story City.
